August 6 & 13, 9am -12pm
South Butler Community Library
Instructor- Ceramic artist Christy Culp from the Saxonburg Area Artists Co-op

Level: all levels (no experience necessary)
A Nicho is similar to the Latin American folk art- “retablo”-a decorative wall frame used to place significant importance upon a person, object or belief. Traditionally they are made from wood and metal scrap. We will create a Nicho (approximately 6”) using red earthenware clay.
Participants will learn traditional slab/hand building techniques. We will design and create individual Nichos and small symbols of personal importance to place inside them. Our creations will be complete with the addition of colored under glazes using various application techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring sketchbook designs, printed images, and tools, but these are not necessary. All tools will be provided. Registration $40-includes all materials and firing fees

2 day class (1 week apart for drying and firing time)
